This is ongoing.

Gatherings

Three formats. Different temperatures. The work happens before the doors open and after they close. It's already been going on without you.

Wednesday Salon Biweekly, 8 PM
Friday Critiques Weekly, 3–5 PM
Friday Open Studio Weekly, 6–9 PM
Location EXHAUST, Provincetown
Wednesday Salon

The room
where work
gets spoken.

Frequency Every other Wednesday
Time 8 PM, no end time
Season Year-round
Starts May 6, 2026

The French salon tradition transplanted into a working studio on the Provincetown waterfront. Artists, writers, thinkers — anyone with a serious relationship to the made thing — gathering not to present, not to perform, but to talk about work in the room it was made in.

Paintings lean against the walls. Manuscripts are passed across the table. Ideas that haven't fully formed yet are spoken out loud for the first time. This is not a lecture. Not a panel. Not an event with a program. The conversation is the event.

Provincetown used to be this: a place where the people making the work were also making the room. This is an attempt to rebuild that. First-time guests reach out before attending. After your first visit, you're welcome at every subsequent Wednesday.

Friday Critiques

Mandatory.
No exceptions.
The engine.

Frequency Every Friday
Time 3–5 PM
Season May 22 → late Nov
Who Studio artists only

Mandatory for every studio artist at EXHAUST. Zero exceptions. Two to ten artists. No spectators. Work is brought into the room — whatever is on the wall, whatever is on the floor, whatever is stuck — and discussed directly. No softening. No encouraging.

The question is always the same: what is the work actually doing, and what is it failing to do. If only one person shows up, it still happens.

This is not optional feedback. It is the mechanism the studio runs on. Without the room where work gets tested, there is no work worth showing. Critique runs every Friday before Open Studio. That sequence is not accidental.

Friday Open Studio

Open.
No RSVP.
Just show up.

Frequency Every Friday
Time 6–9 PM
Season May 22 → late Nov
RSVP None required

The doors open after Critique ends. The studio is live — not staged, not curated, not a gallery. What you see is what was worked on this week. The work from the afternoon's critique is still on the walls, still being argued about inside the artists' heads.

Walk into 259 Commercial St Rear on any Friday between 6 and 9 PM. You are not walking into a showroom. You are walking into the process. The smell of oil paint. The unfinished edges. The work at the moment it still has something to prove.

No RSVP, no reservation, no fee. Memorial Day weekend through late November, every Friday without exception.

Friday Critiques — 2026 Season

Every Friday, 3–5 PM, Memorial Day weekend through late November. Mandatory for all studio artists at EXHAUST. No exceptions.

May — June May 22 → June 26
Season opens Memorial Day weekend. Six consecutive Fridays. Work from the first weeks of the season enters the room unresolved — which is exactly when critique matters most.
July — August July 3 → August 28
Peak summer. The studio is running at full pressure. Critique keeps the work honest while the season accelerates around it. Every Friday, 3–5 PM, before the doors open.
September — October September 4 → October 30
The gallery season winds down. Critique does not. The work produced in September and October is often the strongest of the year. This is where it gets made.
November November 6 → late November
Final weeks. The season closes. Watch @tpslater for the final date. Critique runs until the studio closes for winter.
Friday Open Studio — 2026 Season

Every Friday, 6–9 PM, Memorial Day weekend through late November. No RSVP. 259 Commercial St Rear, Provincetown.

May — June May 22 → June 26
Season opens Memorial Day weekend. Six consecutive Fridays — the studio is active and paintings are in progress. Come early in the season to see work at its most unresolved.
July — August July 3 → August 28
Peak summer. The studio runs alongside the gallery season — but this is the studio, not a gallery. Large canvases in progress. The work is live.
September — October September 4 → October 30
The gallery season winds down. Open Studio continues. The air changes; so does the work. Often the best time to visit.
November November 6 → late November
Final weeks of the outdoor season. Studio moves inward. Watch @tpslater for final date confirmation.
