Scene i · The Different Clock · paired with this canvas.
Six oil and mixed media paintings made at the studio on Commercial Street, Provincetown, summer 2026. The companion libretto opens here, scene by scene.
Six canvases painted through the long Provincetown summer, when the harbor empties out and the coast goes quiet again. Each one holds a question the libretto answers, then leaves open. Read them together or in any order.
Tadhg Slater · The Libretto
The libretto of Untitled Coast was written across the same Provincetown season that produced the canvases on this page, set in the weeks after the harbor empties and the town goes quiet. A question runs through both: what does a coast remember, once the boats leave and the streets fill with strangers? Below is a public excerpt from the opening act, paired with the four paintings closest to it.
The harbor keeps a different clock in summer.
The boats carry names that no one here knows.
I walked the breakwater for the cold,
to come back inside a different person.
The light at five stays at five for forty minutes.
I counted it on the wall above the work.
The painting came back softer than I left it,
as if the coast had asked it to slow down.
